MARY WENDERLICH

Softball - 1998

Mary Wenderlich graduated from Corning West in 1980 following a sparkling four-year career as a member of the Vikings Softball team. She was a four-year starter as a catcher for the Vikings beginning in 1977 as a freshman when West High first fielded a softball team. Mary earned a varsity letter in all four years for the softball teams and was also a starter as a sophomore on the volleyball and basketball teams. Following graduation from high school, Mary took her talents to Corning Community College where she was a standout for Coach Pat Templeton's squad for two years. During her second year at CCC, she was the captain of the Red Barons and led the team in homers, RBI and was second in triples while hitting .328. Her clutch hitting, especially with runners on base, keyed many victories for the Red Barons. After that season she was named to the All-Region III First-Team as a catcher. Mary was only the second player at CCC to make the All-Region first-team. After graduating from SUNY Utica, she continued to play off and on in local leagues around her Webster, NY home. In 1994 she was named the MVP of the Hots Classic Division I New York State Qualifying Tournament in the Women's Class C Slowpitch Tournament. She was named the MVP of that same tournament in 1983 when she blasted five home runs for the Poster Restaurant team.
