JACOB (JAKE) WELCH

Track - 2009

 JACOB (JAKE) WELCH graduated from Corning East High School in 1971. He was a longtime member of the East High track team and culminated his high school career when he won the Steuben County championship in low hurdles. Following graduation, Jake took his track talent to the University of Rochester where he helped that institution capture the New York State Championship with a gold medal in the medley relay. He competed for four years for both the indoor and the outdoor track and field teams. Jake still competes to this day. His accomplishments include a gold medal for the high hurdles and a silver medal in the intermediates in the Masters division of the Empire State Games in 2004; a gold medal for the intermediates in 2005 and 2006 in the Masters Division in the Empire Games; a gold medal for the high hurdles in the Masters Division of the State Games of America in 2007 and a gold medal in the high hurdles in the Masters Division in the Empire Games in 2008. Jake and his family still live in the Corning area.
