Baseball - 2001
Garrett Vail graduated from Corning East in 1995 as one of the best baseball players in the history of the school. He was an anchor on the mound for the Trojans playing in every one of East's record 28 consecutive STC League wins. He was All-STC, All-Leader and All-Star Gazette Area first team as a sophomore, junior and senior, being named the MVP of the league as a senior. He posted more wins than anyone in East High history with 24 (including an 8-1 mark versus Horseheads) while batting .380 during his four-year varsity career and helped lead East to three straight STC Championships and the Class B NYS Title in 1995. Garrett was the first C-PP area baseball player to play in two Empire State games helping the West Region win the Gold medal in 1993. He went to Harvard where he played four years on the Crimson varsity while helping them win three Ivy league titles and four Red Rolff Division titles. Garrett was also a GTE Academic Regional All-American in 1999. After graduating Cum Laude with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Harvard, he was signed by the Boston Red Sox and played a season in the Gulf Coast Rookie League. He currently is working for Corning Inc. at their Marlborough, Mass, plant and lives in Cambridge.
