SAL TOMBASCO has been involved in local sports around the Corning-Painted Post area for close to 25 years. For over 20 years he has been the Head Director of the Physically and Mentally Challenged Baseball Camp of the Southern Tier. This camp has provided fun and the learning of baseball for hundreds of Southern Tier residents with all kinds of physical and mental limitations. Sal has also been involved with the local Small Fry Football program for over 20 years, serving as a coach and administrator. He has been an associate scout for the Philadelphia Phillies for the past 21 years. Sal was also a player, coach and part owner of the Indianapolis Clowns professional baseball club. He’s also known as the first player to get a hit for the Corning Community baseball team. For two years, he served as the head baseball coach at Bradford High School. Sal also served as a Little League, Babe Ruth League and high school umpire for ten years. He also does radio broadcasting in the area covering Elmira College hockey, Elmira Pioneers baseball and local high school baseball and basketball.
