Soccer - 1997
Neil Howard graduated from Coming West in 1989 following a sparkling four-year career for the Coming-Painted Post District soccer team. He finished his career as the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Hawks with a total of 59 goals and 26 assists. Neil scored 10 goals as a freshman, 15 as a sophomore and 17 goals in each of his junior and senior seasons. He was a four-year starter for Corning, serving as team captain in his senior year, and became the only player in the history of the STC to be named to the all-league team four consecutive years. During his four-year tenure with the Hawks, Neil led the team to a pair of league championships and also helped Corning to its only sectional final game which they lost to eventual state champion Vestal. After graduation from West, Neil took his talents to Alfred University where he played four years on the varsity soccer team. He was used primarily as a defensive player and thus did not have the freedom to move up and score. He was team captain in his senior year when he was named to the Empire Athletic Association second all-star team. While at Alfred, Neil was also named to the Adidas Academic All-American team. He currently makes his home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
