Doug graduated from Corning Northside High School in 1963. He was a 3 year member of Tigers prestigious track team competing in the high jump, triple jump, 880 relay and 100 yard hurdles. Doug was the team captain as a senior. He set the school record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 11.8 seconds. Also, he was outstanding high jumper easily clearing 6 feet and long jumper consistently going over 20 feet. Doug was the county champion in the 180 yard hurdles, placing 3rd in sectionals and was consistently the high point getter in dual meets by winning the hurdles, high jump, triple jump and 880 relay in most meets. He was also a two-year starting 5’8” point guard, he jumped center while averaging 14 points per game as a junior and senior. Along with Bob Morse, was one of the ‘touchdown twins’ for Northside when he also averaged 40 yds. per kick as the punter. A triple threat back rushing, receiving and could throw the ball with both hands. Doug was recruited by Brown University but chose to enter the military.
