JOHN ABERCROMBIE

Basketball - 2008

JOHN ABERCROMBIE will be remembered as one of the hardest working basketball players that ever wore the maroon and white at Corning East High School. John graduated from East in 1974 and as a senior was an honorable mention all-league player. While he may not have been the standout as some other players in high school, John became a near legend in adult league play in the area. He was a mainstay for Mac's Grill in the Erwin Summer League for over 25 years where he led his team to numerous league crowns as a scrappy and dependable point guard. No one worked harder on the court than John, and he became a thorn in the side of many opponents. John also played in a number of 3 on 3 tournaments with the highlights being second place finishes in tournaments in Hershey Park, Pa, the Buffalo Gus Macker tournaments in Binghamton and in the Toronto Skydome. John has also served the game he loves as a coach at the AAU level and assisting at East High. At the age of 51, John is still playing in competitive 3 on 3 tournaments.
